I have made a number of stock LEGO models, and the alternate models for most of them. My collection of parts came from more than 170 separate models (and I have duplicates of some of those). This gave me a wide variety of the speciality pieces, as well as a large number of LEGO people and animals, and plenty of bricks and plates.
I have pictures of some of the standard models I've built, as well as some independent designs. I hope to have the time to post more pictures here soon. My goal is to have a separate page for the Emergency Services vehicles.
I have also made a number of custom models. Most of these have been committed to their own pages. I made the pages at the request of others who had heard about the projects via email, and they wanted to see the pictures. (I actually had to make these pages during my vacation time, since work and volunteer projects take most of my spare time.) Here are links to the projects pages;
My big projects can take months to build, because they depend on my having some spare time. Usually, the time for construction really comes when I'm busy, or stressed out, and I need a break from whatever I'm working on. My LEGOs are good therapy, because the construction on a project requires a lot of focus, which makes me ignore the other things for a while. When I've made some headway with the LEGO project, then I go back to the other work with a fresh mind.
Smaller projects usually start life as word-pictures (descriptive paragraphs) or drawings in a notebook, before they attain their form. Sometimes, though, the idea takes over my mind, simmering in my spare time, lingering in my conscious thought until I get to build it, and get it out of my mind. (The space bases usually 'take over my mind'.). Someday, I'll make a larger project of a Babylon 5-style diorama.
