August 2012 Palo Alto BayLUG Meeting

Saturday, August 25, 2012
11am to 4pm
Museum of American Heritage
351 Homer Avenue
Palo Alto, CA 94301
[map]

BayLUG will be having a meeting and show on August 25, 2012, from 11am-4pm in the Frank Livermore Learning Center at the Museum of American Heritage in Palo Alto. There will be members offering LEGO parts and sets for sale or trade, so bring your wallet.

Members: You may bring models to display, as well as LEGO parts and sets to buy/sell/trade. Space is limited however, so you need to reserve it using the planning wiki page, and you may need to bring your own table(s). Watch the "chat" mailing list for more details. Setup for members only will begin at 10:00am. Teardown will begin at 3:30pm.

Kids' activity

The kids' activity for this meeting will be to build creations for the "Things That Fly" contest. Kids will build during the meeting using parts that we supply, and then we'll have a vote to pick the winner in each age bracket (everyone under age 6 is a winner as usual!).

Kids are also welcome to build models at home to display in the contest.

Contest

The contest theme for this meeting is "Things That Fly." Build aircraft, spaceships, models of insects or birds or bats, or anything else you can think of that fits the theme of "Things That Fly." Build and bring a model that fits the theme of the contest to enter (or for kids, build a model during the Kids' Activity as described above).

Adults and teens (12+) should strive for maximum realism; younger kids are free to follow their imagination. Please provide an index card or other sign with your first name, age, and a brief description of your model.

Models must be original and may not have been displayed publicly or online, or entered into any other contest. Only BayLUG members in good standing are eligible to enter, but you may join online prior to the meeting and take part.

Prizes will be awarded for the winner in the following age groups:

  • Under 6 years old - all entries will receive a prize
  • 6-9 years old
  • 10-12 years old
  • 13-17 years old
  • 18 years and older

Except for the under-6 category, there will be one prize given for each age group. Only ONE entry per member, please. All members wanting to participate in the building contest MUST show their namebadge to be eligible to participate. If there are any under-6 entries, there will be an age appropriate prize available for them as well.

The contest judging will begin at 1:00pm. All contestants should be present at that time to explain their models and vote. After the prizes are awarded you may take your model and leave but you are encouraged to leave them on display for the remainder of the meeting.

Remember, the contest is for members only. If you're not a member, sign up prior to the meeting and you can participate in the contest.
