Gatehouse

Gatehouse and main keep

New!The gatehouse is the main defensive structure of the fortress. The new three level design has a detailed facade black timbers soaked in a fire-retardant mixture of tree-gum and ash, and bleached hardwood. Set in the floor of the first level is a large grate that allows soldiers to pour hot oil on marauders that breach the front gate. The flammable oil is stored in buckets and may be ignited with torches kept on the wall. There is an entrance to the adjoining barracks. The top of the first level has a number of tile pieces that allow the upper level to be easily removed. A ladder (not shown) ascends to the second level.

The second level is a break room and meditation room for the head guards. A balcony looks out onto the practice mats, and is used for periodic troop reviews and military addresses. A ladder ascends to the third floor.

The third level is primarily used as weapons storage and has a low ceiling.
