Ninja Theme Specialized Pieces

This page is a survey of the specialized pieces introduced by the Lego Ninja theme. It includes information on the colors the pieces are avaliable in as well as the frequency of the piece. The text notes pieces that are not unique to this theme. Please do not use images from this page without permission.

Weapons

The katana appears in almost every ninja set. It is molded in only two colors, black and grey.

The Yaori Armor is a minifig accessory that may be worn over the torso. It is molded in dark grey only. The armor is only worn by select samurai.

The Hoshi-kabuto helmet may be worn on the head of a minifig. It comes in three colors: grey, black, and dark grey. It is fairly common.

The Ornamental Helmet horns are ornamental decorations that may be clipped on the top of the Hoshi-kabuto hemlet. It is chromed in gold and is worn by only the highest ranking samurai.

The Ninja Cowl is worn by all ninja. It covers the entire head leaving only the eyes exposed. It is molded in red, black, white, and grey.

Neither the Bandanna nor the Jingasa are ninja-specific pieces, but they are present in many sets. The Bandanna comes in black and red, and is worn by ashigaru. The Jingasa (2x2 radar dish) is worn by ashigaru gunners and comes only in black.

There are four different specialized minifig torsos for the "ninjas". The black and grey torsos are common and appear in the ninja minifig set, the red torso is less common (appearing only in the 1999 sets but not present in the minifig set). The White ninja torso is unique and is present in only one set, 3053.

The two ashigaru torsos are very common. They are present in almost every single 1998 ninja set. The green vest torso is present in the ninja minifig pack. The white torso with the Dragon Jinbaori is uncommon. It is present in three 1999 sets: 3053, 3052, and 3050 (one per set).

The samurai torso is fairly common and may be found in several 1998 sets including 6013 Samurai Swordsman, and the minifig pack (4805). The leather armor torso is the most common of the blue ninja torsos, while the metal yaori torso is unique and is present only in the most expensive ninja set, 6093 Flying Ninja Fortress.

Some sets also include Black, Red, and Grey non-decorated legs (not pictured). The only specialized leg pieces are the blue/black decorated legs and the black decorated legs. The black decorated legs are uncommon (present in three 1999 sets: 3053, 3052, and 3050). The blue/black decorated legs are somewhat common. The black/white legs are present in only one set while the red/black and blue/black legs are common.

There are 8 different heads introduced by the lego theme sorted above by how common the head is. All heads are fairly common except the two last heads. The ninja pricess head is unique, appearing only in 3053 as is the Samurai Master head which appears only in 3052.

There are two different wing types used by arial ninja assasins. The feathered wings are rare and are only available in the largest set, 6093. The black canvas wings are present in two samll sets, 6045, and 6088.

Ninja themed sets have three different clans represented, the dragon clan (black field with gold circular emblem with black oriental dragon), the Ninjas (blue field with gold fan and black helmet horns), and the Robbers (red field with black stripes and diamond insignia with longhorns). The robber and ninja nobori flags and sahimono are very common and appear in all 1992 while the dragon clan regalia appear in only the four 1999 sets.

The ninja theme uses 3 colors of gems (introduced in the adventurers theme). These are present in almost all ninja sets. These sets also routinely use the gold coins as treasure.

Building elements and decorative pieces

The Ninja theme introduces two new decorative pieces that are common in most sets. It introduces one new plant type- the bamboo shoot.

The decorative carp (also known as a oriental dophin) is found as a decoration on most of the ninja theme buildings. It comes in only one color- gray.

Two new wall pieces are introduced by the ninja theme. These pieces are 6x4x6 and are molded in dark grey. These pieces come with two different screens. The gray screen, is present in volume in 6093 and 6089. The multicolored sandstone screen is present only in 3053 in a quantity of two.

Revolving Wood Panel
Decorative Panel

Although many of the ninja sets use revolving doors introduced in the castle theme, the ninja theme has a unique screen revolving door. This Panel is found in two sets, 3052 and 6093.

The decorative panel is not screened. It is a sticker that goes on the inside of a large hinged panel. This sticker is present only in 6033 (2), although the panel without the sticker is used in 3053.
